Welcome to the jungle where great people, monkeys and waffles mingle. WAFFLE MONKEY Sarasota is an independently owned café and waffle house by Pete and Kathryn Collins. They built this Costa Rican-born breakfast and lunch brand on a passion for good quality coffee and tasty Belgian style waffles. A selection of their waffles can also be made gluten free or vegan on request. They offer sausage rolls wrapped in puff pastry, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, a fruit-based lunch item called the Monkey Bowl, and you can build your own breakfast platter. The drink menu is abundant just like waffles and sandwiches. They offer a big variety of Costa Rican coffee choices, tea, cold drinks, milkshakes, frappes, and bottled drinks.
Why the name Waffle Monkey? The original shop in Costa Rica is famously known for a monkey that visits daily for fruit, that inspired the brand’s name.

The custom mural that embraces the Waffle Monkey tells a story. It brings the tropical vibes and playful spirit to life — with monkeys, feeling of paradise, and of course, waffles. This wallpaper mural was created by Kenneth King of Kingdom Home. Kenneth brought Kathryn’s vision of whimsical, waffle-loving monkeys to life with breathtaking detail, playful charm, and unreal creativity. Every inch of this mural tells a story — and it’s now the heart of their café.
Would you like to bring a souvenir home or buy someone a gift? They have stuffed monkeys, coffee cups and T-shirts for sale. The best part the capuchins are Wild Republic monkeys and made with recycled products. Wild Republic donates a portion of this purchase to Rainforest Conservation Initiatives.
Waffle Monkey has also extra locations – with their first in the popular surfing town of TAMARINDO, GUANACASTE on Costa Rica’s Northern Pacific Coast. They opened their second location on the Waterfront in GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN in the Cayman Islands and in May 2023, they opened their third location in BONITA SPRINGS, FLORIDA.
In May 2025, they opened a further two stores – one back in Costa Rica at laid back FLAMINGO BEACH, GUANACASTE and their second Florida location in the middle of Gallery Row, South Palm Avenue in sunny SARASOTA, FLORIDA.
