History of Lazy Lobster:
The partnership between Bob Fracalossy and Michael Garey began years ago in 1979 at Café L’Europe on St. Armand’s Circle where Bob was the butcher and Michael was busing tables. Eventually, Bob became the Chef and Michael the General Manager. In 1994, they opened the original Café on the Bay at the Moorings Marina for the owners of Café L’Europe, where Bob remained as Chef for several years.
The original Lazy Lobster was started by partners and dear friends Bob & Kay Fracalossy on June 25th, 2007, at Tallevast and Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota. After 15 wonderful years, The Lazy Lobster in Sarasota has made the decision to cease operation under the Lazy Lobster name in this location. It has now re-opened as Kacey’s Seafood & More (a second location). the Lazy Lobster on Longboat Key remains open and continues to operate as usual.
Michael and Bob reunited once more to open The Lazy Lobster of Longboat on October 15, 2009, during the peak of the economic downturn, in a location not necessarily kind to previous establishments, with many of their extended family and friends accusing them of insanity. Thankfully, the restaurant took off almost immediately and has been successful beyond their wildest dreams.
In 2014 together they opened Kacey’s Seafood & More in Sarasota and their latest venture, a partnership with the Alderson family – the owners of Tyler’s Gourmet Ice Cream – has finally brought locally owned, locally made homemade ice cream and gourmet chocolates to Longboat Key.
Customer Reviews:
“My New Favorite Place! Everything about this place was aces from the greeting by Kate and the impeccable service from Eric. I was truly impressed! The food…oh the food, was spectacular! The Lobster Scargot fell out of heaven. I plan to wear this place out in the future.” – Barry L.
“What a surprise! Walking into the restaurant building we never expected such a gem. The restaurant is located inside of a building that houses other businesses. The restaurant was lovely and the food was outstanding. I tried Lobsterscargot with salad and my husband had the Lobster Roll with homemade chips. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff was very attentive especially Brianna, our waitress. We also met Kate and Michael, the owners. They couldn’t have been nicer. We’ll definitely return and also spread the word to any friends who would visit the area.” – helenrL384RS
“We were staying on Longboat Key for 7 days. The only restaurant we ate at twice was the Lazy Lobster of Longboat Key. Both times we sat outside on the patio. The first night I had the Lobster Roll (the cold version) and my wife had the Salmon Salad. Both were amazing. Don’t skip the bread appetizer with the house made Pepper Jelly! Regina was our server, and she was very attentive. Our second night (last night on the Key) was just as amazing. Conner was our server this time. I had the Chicken Marsala, and my wife had the Key West Shrimp Dinner (Blackened). Again, the atmosphere of the patio and the wonderful dinner put a exclamation point on a great week. Conner was an excellent server who went above and beyond to make our visit special. There may be better views, but not better food! Side note: The Jalapeno Margarita is excellent!! Thank you!! We will be back!!” – GA Traveler37
