The Breakfast House
The Breakfast House is known for the best breakfast in Sarasota.
“Dreams can come true, through passion and perseverance.”
In April 2009, while driving west on Fruitville Road, the “FOR RENT” sign displayed on this falling-apart bungalow caught my eye. I thought out loud, “this would make an adorable breakfast restaurant”. My daughter, sitting beside me, said I was crazy… Little did we know, this dilapidated house was going to change our lives.
December 14th, 2009, “The Breakfast House”, opened for business. We served 35 people our first day. Within 2 weeks we were serving breakfast and lunch to over 100 people each day. Today, that number has doubled.
December 14th, 2022, The Breakfast House will be open 13 years.
Thanks to all of our wonderful guests. – Owner, Wendy Lee
It serves breakfast all day and lunch after 11 am. Hours: Tues – Sun: 8am – 2pm
Customer reviews:
“I love restaurants that are in a bungalow home type setting. The Breakfast House is one of those places that screams Key West all over it. It’s just a tropical heaven filled with bright colors inside. Bold painted chairs with matching napkins for each table. How cute is that. The place is filled with local artist paintings that you can purchase.
Amy, our server was very nice and helpful, and provided some guidance with ordering from the menu. Lately, I seem to ask a lot of questions, and she was quite generous and patient with them.
I ordered a crabs & asparagus benedict with a side of grits. I had never had that before, and it was very good. My husband ordered the eggs benedict with turkey and tomatoes. His came with hash browns. He liked his as well.
The owner would come around each table to greet each other, and also let us know that her daughter’s birthday was that day, so it was decorated a little bit more for her.
There is also an outside seating area in the back. It is dog friendly and has quite a bit of shade with its tiki umbrellas on each table.
The location is in downtown Sarasota near some the historic district which has small bright colored bungalows all next to each other. There is a woman’s consignment shop, a tea place, costume jewelry, hair salon to name a few. Therefore, this place is not just to stop by the restaurant. It’s also a place to browse around. You can also stop by the Saturday Farmers Market which is a pretty good-sized market or walk by the Sarasota pier which is also a nice park. Lots of fun stuff to see in this area, and I will definitely be back. – Rachel M.
“Lovely setting, welcoming staff, great food, best part mostly locally purchased.” – Christina Miller Quina
