El Greco Kitchen and Market
In 1990, George Soublis opened El Greco Cafe and brought Greek cuisine to Sarasota. The restaurant was a staple in downtown for almost 20 years. Now the same Syros family is bringing it back in the new location in South Sarasota with the new fast casual version of the original, but the same warmth and hospitality and George’s famous recipes.
Dimitri Syros is Goerge Soublis’ grandson. He and his family are excited to continue his grandfather’s legacy and bring El Greco back to the community, that means so much to their family. Dimitri and his mother Terri Syros-King already own the Breakfast Company with four locations in Sarasota and Bradenton. George Soublis is considered “the guiding spirit behind the family’s work,” along with his repeated statement, “Welcome, my friend!”
El Greco Kitchen and Market is the Greek restaurant for nourishing and flavorful food with customizable greens & grains bowls, pitas & salad. Their tzatziki and Greek dressing are homemade using family recipes that have been passed down for generations. Alongside the classics, they’re bringing something new to the table with their beet hummus, made in-house as a fresh take on a traditional favorite. The Market will sell authentic Greek products like honey, olive oil, pasta, beer and wine, along with seasonal products.
Whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or keeping it light with one of their salads, they’ve got you covered.
Customer Reviews:
“It is so awesome to have the flavors of El Greco Cafe back in town but also to feel George’s hospitality, too. Walking in, you can almost hear him saying “Welcome, my friend!” The food is familiar & terrific, and the casual decor feels like home. A great re-introduction of a Sarasota Classic!” – Joe C.
“This place is absolutely beautiful!! The food is healthy, fresh and delicious. You can build your own bowl/plate/ pita. Im obsessed with the Salmon bowl!” – Diana Syros
“Stopped in on opening day and was immediately wowed by the decor…a little bit of Greece right here in Sarasota. Even the beautiful Greek melodies in the background gave it that authentic touch. There is so much to suggest on the menu…gyro, souvlaki, bowls and salads. The dips and spreads are amazing, with the best tzatziki ever! I had the flaky spanakopita and a delicious Greek salad with a big chunk of feta on top, and baklava for dessert.
Don’t miss the Greek market where you can get authentic Greek staples to take home.” – Paulene Soublis
