Casa Italia
Welcome to Casa Italia, Sarasota’s International Specialty Market.
For nearly three decades, Casa Italia has widely been recognized as the premier destination for shoppers in search of quality European and ethnic foods. Casa Italia’s expansive selection of hard-to-find ingredients has been greeted eagerly by food enthusiasts on the west coast of Florida.
Casa Italia is your one stop shop for quality extra virgin olive oils, aged balsamic and other flavored vinegars, risotto rice, artisanal pasta, fabulous European cheeses and olives, and fine wines. A vast array of spices, jams and preserves, specialty cured meats, and imported mozzarella di buffalo, are just a few more of the culinary treasures that await you here.
The heart of the 3000 sq ft. store is the deli department. Here you will find an extensive range of cheeses from Italy, Spain, France, Denmark, England and Switzerland. Italian favorites include Parmigiano Reggiano, Auricchio provolone, Pecorino Romano, Gorgonzola & Fontina to name but a few. The deli also carries three types of imported prosciutto and a variety of cold cuts. Boneless, skinless salt cod “Baccala” is available throughout the year. Buffalo mozzarella imported from Italy is available, as are fresh and cherry-sized mozzarella. There is a large selection of specialty olives. Both Raj and Nita are happy to give tastings and advise on selections to suit your palate. The grocery department contains a number of pastas, from frozen to premium brands as well as whole wheat and organic. In the freezer, there is a selection of raviolis stuffed with cheese, eggplant, mushroom or crab & lobster. To go with the pasta there is an extensive variety of sauces. Customers will also find Belgian Callebaut & fine Italian chocolates, canned vegetables, capers and caperberries, caviar, anchovies, tuna, smoked salmon and, a particular favorite, white anchovies. There is an extensive range of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars. You will also find a 50-year-old sherry vinegar from Spain as well as champagne, raspberry and red or white wine vinegars.
For unexpected guests or impromptu dinners there are prepared meals to go. The range of Italian food has been joined by Indian food made by Nita. For a few years, Indian cooking classes have started, with the first four sold out within days. The selection of wines features reds and whites from Italy, but there are also wines from many other countries. They range from $8.99 to over $50 a bottle.
For coffee lovers, the store has Lavazza and Kimbo espresso coffee as well as coffee makers. For your sweet tooth, they have Biscotti, Torrone, Perugina chocolate, Panetone and Panforte.
The friendly, personal service provided, and the extensive range of products has made Casa Italia a favorite shopping venue for nearly three decades.

“Love this place! Homemade dishes, great wines, fun events… what’s not to love? If you are in the Sarasota area, this is an authentic, fun, “old school” style market. Gourmet items from around the world, the olives, cheese and meats are amazing, and the wine selection is wonderfully priced and fantastic selections. Oh, and if you like homemade Indian food, every Friday Nita makes a fresh batch, it’s so good! “Haven’t had lasagna like that in 30 years!!! When i was a young man, I ate home cooked lasagna and Italian food with a large Italian family. I have never had Italian food made that way again in this country, until my wife brought me home Nita’s Italian lasagna. Tasted exactly like Teresa’s! I can’t wait to have more and to try her other ready-made Italian dishes.” – Douglas Booth
