History of Lazy Lobster:
The partnership between Bob Fracalossy and Michael Garey began years ago in 1979 at Café L’Europe on St. Armand’s Circle where Bob was the butcher and Michael was busing tables. Eventually, Bob became the Chef and Michael the General Manager. In 1994, they opened the original Café on the Bay at the Moorings Marina for the owners of Café L’Europe, where Bob remained as Chef for several years.
The original Lazy Lobster was started by partners and dear friends Bob & Kay Fracalossy on June 25th, 2007, at Tallevast and Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota. After 15 wonderful years, The Lazy Lobster in Sarasota has made the decision to cease operation under the Lazy Lobster name in this location. It has now re-opened as Kacey’s Seafood & More (a second location). the Lazy Lobster on Longboat Key remains open and continues to operate as usual.
Michael and Bob reunited once more to open The Lazy Lobster of Longboat on October 15, 2009, during the peak of the economic downturn, in a location not necessarily kind to previous establishments, with many of their extended family and friends accusing them of insanity. Thankfully, the restaurant took off almost immediately and has been successful beyond their wildest dreams.
In 2014 together they opened Kacey’s Seafood & More in Sarasota and their latest venture, a partnership with the Alderson family – the owners of Tyler’s Gourmet Ice Cream – has finally brought locally owned, locally made homemade ice cream and gourmet chocolates to Longboat Key.

The surf & turf Tuesday special was excellent with a large succulent lobster tail. The jumbo scallops & jumbo shrimps over couscous were a masterpiece. My grouper over risotto & asparagus was so good, risotto cooked perfectly. The crab cakes were on point, better than most. The clam chowder was creamy & rich, full of goodness. The Greek salad was perfect with a nice touch of potato salad. The mini-French baguettes were crunchy & soft inside. We ordered desserts to go. Portions were more than adequate & pricing were very reasonable for fresh seafood executed perfectly. Our servers were friendly & nice, even to our Corgi. We shared the Coconut Shrimp appetizer and the Key Lime Pie dessert. All the food was absolutely outstanding. Our server, Mike, made our night very relaxing and enjoyable. “This was our first visit and a 65th birthday lunch choice and it did not disappoint, in fact, we thoroughly enjoyed our delicious, blackened Lobster tacos, glass of Argentinian Malbec and incredible house made Key Lime Pie. From the mgr greeting, who held the entry door and seated us, to our server, and the additional mgr who checked on us, the service was great. From the outside, it’s warm and comfortable ambiance is deceiving, but inside there is an intimate-stylish bar and two dining sections designed around a tropical garden patio area outside.
