Marlane Wurzbach, Artist
Come take a visual vacation to the sunny Gulf Coast of Florida through these bold, realistic landscapes, seascapes, still lifes and floral close-ups rendered in a vibrant, colorful palette of acrylic paints. Marlane’s paintings reflect a love of bright, vivid images meant to cheer the viewer.
Marlane has been drawing and painting all her life, starting with the living room walls when she was a child. But it wasn’t until she moved to Florida that she had time to devote to it. High school and college art student, NY School of Interior Design graduate, interior designer, window dresser, dessert caterer, special-interest article writer, magazine layout artist, desktop publisher — these were all creative endeavors she enjoyed while living in the NY tri-state area. While living in Connecticut for 30 years as a wife and mother, Marlane pursued her artistic inclinations by volunteering at local public schools and organizations on various decorative painting and crafts projects. In their home she painted several decorative murals of local points of interest and enjoyed needlepoint and gardening. They moved to Anna Maria Island in 2005 and Marlane sold her paintings there until 2016. They now reside in Sarasota, where she focuses on painting bold, intimate, colorful, realistic landscapes, florals and still lifes meant to take the viewer on a visual “vacation.” Since moving to Florida, she has also dabbled in mosaics with ceramic tiles, pottery shards, beach glass and Italian glass tiles on projects such as tables, sideboards, mirrors, birdbaths, benches, trays and planters. Her first love, however is painting acrylics on canvases. When a fresh flower, perfect fruit or vegetable catches her eye, she wants to give it the attention it deserves — to focus on its beauty and preserve it in a painting. Sometimes Marlane feels she is cheerleading for her subject, saying to the world, “Hey! Don’t overlook how amazing this is!”
Artist’s Statement:
“After many years enduring the long drab winters of the northeast, Florida’s cheerful vistas offer me a wealth of colorful, dramatic subjects for painting. Painting realistically and in detail is a challenge that gives me great joy and creative satisfaction. The objects, people and scenes I paint have captured my attention and brought me much happiness. It is my sincere hope that they do the same for all those who view them.” — Marlane Wurzbach
