William Hartman Gallery was established in 1976. William Hartman, the son of artists, teachers and frame makers was mentored by St. Armand’s Gallery owner Murray Lebwohl in the early 1970s. In 1976 he partnered with Joan Hodgell in the creation of Hodgell Hartman Gallery, and in 1982 soloed with his own William Hartman Gallery, specializing in antique maps and nature prints.
Today, Bill features Florida landscape paintings and vintage photographic images of Sarasota and Florida.
From it’s earliest inception, the gallery has specialized in archival framing and has earned an outstanding reputation in Southwest Florida for the framing of fine art to the highest standards. From period paintings to contemporary graphics, from ancient textiles to objet d’art, the gallery offers thoughtful handling and expertise.
“William Hartman Gallery is Sarasota’s finest framing gallery. They do exceptional, museum quality framing. The gallery portion handles the work of post-WWII artists who established a notable artists colony in Sarasota. They also handle antique art prints. In recent years, they have amassed the largest collection of vintage photographs of Sarasota and the surrounding west coast.
This is a not-to-be missed destination if you are interested in Sarasota’s history.” – Deborah D.
