Mote Marine Laboratory
Mote Marine is a great place to see and learn a lot of things about Marine wildlife.
Do you know that sharks are immune to cancer? I had a pleasure talking to volunteers and find interesting things about marine life. They are so passionate about sea creatures and will provide you with an interesting and fascinating information.
Do you know that manatees were mistaken to be mermaids by sailors? Do you know that manatees are aquatic relatives of elephants? Come and see Hugh and Buffet, the manatees. Do you know that their daily food ration includes 120 head of romaine lettuce, 12 bunches of kale and variety of treats like baby carrots, beets and apples? They also have fingernails!
Moonshine and Harley, the dolphins will entertain you by swimming backwards, jumping, playing ball and making different noises. So cute and awe-inspiring. They are experts in entertaining.
Do you know that Sea Turtles outlived the dinosaurs? Come and see Hang Tough, Shelley and Montego, and Harriet. Mote Marine not only provides home to these creatures, but also rescues and rehabilitates stranded, injured and sick sea turtles. Also, they monitor nests and makes sure that baby turtles go back in the water.
You also will enjoy seahorses, sharks, sting rays, crabs, sea stars, octopus, jelly fish, and many more various beautiful and unusual, small and gigantic fish and other sea creatures. Mote Marine even provide touch tanks Contact Cove and Ray Touch Pool for children to explore underwater.
Mote Marine Laboratory is internationally known and has been a leader in marine research since 1955. Mote Marine is non-profit organization. Therefore, they always look for volunteers and donations are encouraged.
