Drunken Poet – Thai food, complete with new Sushi Bar re-opened on Main Street with a very cozy atmosphere, great food as always, and very friendly staff. Each dish is masterfully crafted with fresh ingredients. You have to come to see the new design of the restaurant after make-over. You will be very impressed.
Drunken Poet Cafe was established in 2006 by Aporni “Oy” Punyahotra in downtown Sarasota. The restaurateur is known for her sinful sushi with monikers like the Sexy Man Roll and Sexy Woman Roll, as well as her papaya salads, lobster rolls and sticky rice desserts. A former pharmacist and world traveler who hails from Bangkok, Thailand, Punyahotra ropes in local regulars with her cheery charm and culinary mastery.
Aporni came from France to visit her brother in Clearwater. After visiting Selby Gardens, she fell in love with Sarasota. She started researching restaurants for sale and found that Nature’s Way Cafe on Main Street was available. The rest is history. She had always wanted a career in the culinary world and, after seeing Selby and finding the restaurant, she decided to live her dream.
Every dish is made to order and masterfully presented.
“This place is great! Sushi is always fresh and they have combo rolls you wouldn’t find anywhere else. (Try the Queen Kong!) The cooked bowls are good as well. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi as the prices are comparable to Yume and Tsunami. Definitely check it out!” – David D.
“The Specialty Rolls Are Killer! Time after time, this restaurant never disappoints. The sushi is fresh, the specialty rolls are unique and delicious, everything else is on point! Must make a reservation to ensure a table but also sitting is available at the sushi bar!” – LBKbeachnut
“Whenever family or friends come to town I take them here! I love it! Wonderful sushi and Thai. The owner Oy is fantastic and always treats us well. One of my favorites in town. Definitely worth for a new try – great restaurant.” – Lindsay Perry
