C’est la Vie is the authentic French Bistro in Sarasota in business for almost 20 Years. It’s easy to forget that you’re in Florida and not France on your visit to C’est La Vie. When owners Christophe and Geraldine moved to Sarasota 20 years ago, it was their mission to bring an authentic French bistro experience to America. C’est la Vie opened its doors in 1997 and was one of the first restaurants downtown to offer outdoor seating like many of the established bistros in France.
Popular menu items at C’est la Vie are quiche, crepes, croissants and sandwiches made on freshly-baked bread. Most of the recipes are Christophe’s own creation, although some were passed down from parents who ran their own restaurant in Paris when he was a child.
C’est la Vie! is one of the favorite spots in Sarasota, so there is usually a crowd of people enjoying a great meal or snacking on savory French pastry. Seating is available inside and outside, and menu is full of variety of choices.
“My husband and I met the owner of this bakery and café a few nights earlier at his restaurant located on 5th Street (Lolita Tartine). When we told him we were going to the Sarasota Market on Saturday, he told us of C’est La Vie, located on Lemon and Main. We decided to start our day by visiting the café prior to exploring the market. I ordered a naked croissant with a side of apricot jam; my husband ordered the Paris (ham/swiss/butter) baguette sandwich. We each ordered French roasted coffee. The croissant was flaky, buttery and absolutely divine. The baguette sandwich had just the right chew to it (not too doughy, not to crusty) – just perfect. We walked the market and returned 1 more time to bring home some pastry and bread!!” – JOCJHP
“We stopped by here for breakfast. It was yummy, delicious pastries, friendly service, and yummy crepes. Their almond croissant was one of the best I have ever tasted. It is a true French cafe, as the owners are Parisian, and a great place to visit while in Sarasota. We also had our four month old with us, and she was greeted kindly by the staff and the owners.” – Saddie M.
“Three of us enjoyed a late lunch on a Saturday here. We all enjoyed our fresh and authentic French food: goat cheese and spinach quiche, namesake salad, and a ham and cheese sandwich. Yummy with good attentive service. We will be back soon!” – Diane M.
