Born in Hamburg, Germany, Karin – married to Jim Billings – lives most of the year in Sarasota, but returns each summer to her home in Hamburg.
“For me, art is an extension of my life experience. As a child and young woman I was drawn to animals, specifically horses. Riding became my life’s work that culminated in a silver medal in dressage at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
Once I became an American citizen, my interests evolved and expanded, travel, ballroom dancing and competitive golf all beckoned. Today painting is my passion. For many years I have studied with excellent teachers in my desire to learn various painting techniques. It is through art that I am trying to tie all my life experiences together. My joy, my focus and my love of color all come together in my paintings.
I work in my own studio – a wonderful environment to peacefully pursue my art, which is now can exhibit together with other local artist in my own Billings Gallery on South Palm Avenue. It is my hope that my paintings offer as much pleasure to others as I derive from creating them.”
