The New Exciting Business opened at University Parkway. ADVENTURE STORE x 4 offers an eclectic mix of travel, culture, history, outdoor activity and automobiles. The unique concept combines day tours, automobile sales and rentals, outdoor products and historical memorabilia.
Adventure Store x 4, under its “Expedition Trails” trade name, will be offering numerous cultural and historical tours in the Suncoast area. The excursions will offer unique, guided backroads tours that focus on the diverse cultures, little-known historic sites and varying eco-systems of our area. Each tour will originate from Sarasota and will take adventurers “off the beaten path” in the comfort of a fully equipped 4-wheel drive, luxury expedition vehicle. The new Expedition Trails Florida Suncoast tours include:
The Myakka River Tour
The Harbor Ferry Tour
Citrus Springs Tour
Florida Cracker Trail Tour
Tampa Bay Arts, Culture and History Tour
Custom tour packages will also be available, incorporating excursions centered around camping, sailing, horseback riding, sunset cruises and sightseeing. In addition, Adventure Store x 4 will offer rentals of jeeps, campers, kayaks, bikes, jet skis and boats for those wanting to get outdoors and explore on their own.
When you visit the Adventure Store x 4, you can’t miss the eye-catching Trading Post sign atop the wooden deck with its rustic roof. Inside, you’ll find local art, historical memorabilia, antiques and collectibles, as well as kayaks, paddleboards, coolers, and camping gear.
Not to be limited in its scope of offerings, Adventure Store x 4 is also a licensed car dealer. While their specialty is adventure vehicles, they offer other quality vehicles, all of which are displayed in the Adventure Store X 4 “campground” located next to the Trading Post.
The concept is the brainchild of owner and operator Chris Cole. Born and raised in the wide-0pen spaces of Abiqui, New Mexico with its majestic landscape and historical culture, Chris was imbued with a spirit of adventure and exploration and a deep respect for people and nature. His neighbor, famed artist Georgia O’Keefe, was a frequent guest at the family ranch. After graduating from New Mexico Military Institute and studying cultural athropology at the University of Arizona, Chris traveled extensively. During the 1980’s he guided tours from the American Southwest to Alaska. He later moved to Honduras where he merged his two passions – tourism and vehicles – to become a consultant to Land Rover and assisted the Land Rover team in mapping the route for the Honduras portion of La Ruta Maya in 1994 and the Camel Trophy Mundo Maya in 1995. Chris also co-founded a chain of automotive dealerships importing Russian UAZ vehicles into Honduras, Guatemala and Belize. The rugged off-road 4×4 UAZ vehicles were used in the original Maya Odyssey tours developed by Cole in the 1990s. In 2010, Chris designed a series of expedition tours throut the Southwestern part of the U.S. to include Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado, that implemented Sustainable Geo-Tourism Initiatives. For his efforts, Chris was awarded the “Excellence in Tourism” award in 2012 from the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association.
“This is a unique and rare find for the person who wants to be different than your cookie cutter bore. I can say from experience that Chris uses only the best product, and people, when renovating his unique, and rare, automobiles. He strives for perfection, and is enthusiastic about his business, as he should be. Keep up the great work!” – Jill Rickerson
“This is the place to go when you are looking for something special. From backwater fun to off-road excursions. Jeeps to kayaks and everything in between. A great place to start your outdoor adventure.” – Chris Koloski
